Welcome to Nightlight Reader Reviews. Many of you who are reading this may have already been reading my original blog, Night Reader Reviews and I thank you for transitioning to my new blog as well. Night Reader Reviews is still active but I am changing it to focus on adult books, Nightlight Reader Reviews is going to focus more on children's books. Many of these will be books that are a bit older that I have read to my own children or newer books that I have been asked to review.

Review: A Collection of Short Stories by Maggie Ffrench

  A Collection of Short Stories by Maggie Ffrench was created with the intention of parents or other caregivers reading it to children and sharing the experience. Written my Maggie Ffrench for her grandson “Jamie’s” first birthday (if the story in the book is true) this book contains twelve imaginative stories to read to young children. All the stories focus on a fictional Jamie and his adventures both by himself and with his family. Some of the stories like “Bubbles” where Jamie climbs into a bubble and flies over the town, or “The Present” where Jamie’s clay creations come alive are firmly in the realm of imagination. On the other hand “The Box” where Jamie plays with a box and “Looking” where Jamie looks out the window are placed in reality. This (almost) even mix offers a good balance for families. Basic Review: The Witches by Roald Dahl

  The Witches by Roald Dahl, like all of his books is a classic. While some children may find it a bit on the scary side depending on their age and mentality I read it to my toddlers recently and they did just fine. This is a story of a young boy who goes to live with his grandmother after his parents sadly die. He was already close to his grandmother so the transition was not too hard on him. She always told him stories of witches, how they hate children and want to destroy them and also how to identify them, but he doesn't believe they are real. One day he goes on a vacation with his grandmother to a hotel and discovered it is also the location of the secret yearly meeting of witches. Upon this accidental discovery the boy spies on them and learns of their evil plan. Now it is up to him with the help of his grandmother to put a stop to the evil witches. I would rate this book 4 out of 4 or 5 out of 5 and highly recommend it.

Basic Review: The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me by Roald Dahl

  The introduction of this book states that it is a great book to read aloud and it is correct. It is a silly and wonderfully fun adventure that I greatly enjoyed reading to my children at bedtime.  A young boy walking past a building that was once a candy shop notices that it has been sold to a window cleaning company. Only this company is ran by an unique crew. Upon befriending the crew the boy goes with them on their first window cleaning job, which turns out to be much more than any of them expected.
